SHS axis of SIRIC-Curamus
The Biomedical Humanities Initiative is fully involved in the humanities and social sciences projects of Siric Curamus, developed in close collaboration with doctors and researchers in experimental sciences.
The Cancer United Research Associating Medicine, University & Society (Curamus) is one of the eight integrated cancer research centres (SiRIC) accredited in 2018 by the National Cancer Institute (INCa).
It is supported by the AP-HP.Sorbonne University hospital group (Pitié Salpêtrière, Saint-Antoine, Tenon, Trousseau, Rothschild, Charles Foix, La Roche-Guyon) and by the three faculties of Medicine, Science and Engineering and Humanities of Sorbonne University under the umbrella of the University Cancer Institute (IUC), in association with their institutional partners, Inserm and the CNRS.
Objectives and programmes
Its objective is to bring together and promote the synergy of its multidisciplinary teams around the AP-HP.Sorbonne University hospital group in order to accelerate research and innovation in oncology to improve care for patients. The integrated research project of SiRIC CURAMUS is based on three programmes, supported in a cross-sector way by the Medical Humanities :
- neuro-oncology
- rare immuno-haematological cancers
- cancers with microsatellite instability
Medical Humanities
The Medical Humanities cross sector program is coordinated by Pr. Karine Berthelot-Guiet. This multidisciplinary axis brings together philosophers, sociologists and researchers in information and communication sciences, whose objective is to propose :
- Critical reflections on concepts that figure prominently in the SiRIC project, such as 'health democracy' and 'expert patients'; 'rare cancers'; 'cure'; or 'predictive' or 'personalised' medicine.
- A multidisciplinary work and approach on the meaning, understanding and use of these concepts, in order to shed light on the role they play and their various implications.
