Master's Degree in Biomedical Humanities
A unique and interdisciplinary training course in the service of biomedical humanities.
This Master’s in Philosophy - Biomedical Humanities offers a course that combines four characteristics :
- a philosophy of medicine and biology approach articulating the philosophy of science, history of philosophy, ethics and theories of justice applied to the field of health.
- a multidisciplinary approach to questions relating to health, illness, the body and medicine, mobilising the humanities (ancient and modern) and the social sciences (history, law, economics, geography, sociology, anthropology, philosophy, literature and art history, information and communication sciences).
- paired teaching, cross approaches (literature and medicine, philosophy and medicine, history and medicine) proposed by a teacher in the humanities discipline and a doctor or researcher in the field of medicine/biology.
- courses anchored in a professional bio-medical environment (internships in hospitals, biomedical research laboratories, health institutes).
The course uses different types of tools (analysis of texts, images, films or pictorial representations, contradictory oral debate) to better analyse contemporary issues in the biomedical field and to identify the practical challenges of health-related issues. It aims to improve oral and written expression skills through the rigorous use of argumentation and rhetoric. It also prepares students to design and produce an original research dissertation on a topic in the biomedical and health field, using a multidisciplinary approach.
